The art of using a light box

One of the most basic equipment you would need when you go ahead with photography is a light box. It is also the simplest of all devices that can do wonders for you and you and experiment with. Knowing your light box is important and once you get an idea, you can also create one for yourself at home.

As the name suggests, light box is a box made of card board. It is convenient to have a board box to move it to places and in case you do not own a studio, you can easily carry it to places. Almost every photographer uses a light box to shoot products. You cannot shoot people with it because there are other means to shoot people. This is a strictly studio equipment where you use artificial lights to shoot products.

You can decide on the size of the light box according to the product you wish to shoot. If you are shooting small items like watches, books or shoes- a small sized light box will work perfect for you. But in case you wish to shoot clothes, or music system or television, you might have to consider a bigger light box.

Creating a backdrop for the light box is equally important. In most of the cases it is white in color because it is easy for post processing and cutting out the object. Also, white reflects light and you can use the extra light for the benefit of your exposures. For a light box, you need two basic lights adjusted at the corners without touching the surface.
